Adult Swim's Premier Fresh Series of 2025 Gets a Major Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.

Last October, Adult Swim saw the return of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, later that same month, the channel introduced a fresh animated series with a strikingly different vibe. Haha, You Clowns emerged as gentle and comforting, reminiscent of a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. In an era often defined by dark humor, this show's wholesomeness resonated deeply and propelled it a surprise hit.

A Major Commitment

In mid-December, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two more seasons. This gives creator Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to expand upon the story of the Campbell family. The series follows three respectful teenage brothers whose defining trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four key characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the viewers of the show who took a chance on the show and spread the word," remarked Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

Network Praise

The official statement also included laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and uniquely eerie." He shouted out the fans who discovered the show and advocated for its uniquely offbeat appeal.

"All of you got behind this new show, championed for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. It offers something deeply soothing about watching this charming family go about their everyday routines.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa stated his desire to move the comedy genre beyond its prevailing layer of irony. He linked this trend to a broader media landscape.

“There's this level of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” explained Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we must laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

The Path Forward

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa has the opportunity to be part of that comedic shift. If nothing else, the renewal guarantees audiences more opportunities to experience the heartfelt moments of the unique Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The entire series is currently streaming on HBO Max.
