Arne Slot Insists He Feels Safe and Retains Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Defeat
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was expected for doubts to be asked about his position following another convincing loss against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their ninth defeat in twelve games, representing the team's poorest run since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie title holders on a punishing night at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I have got a lot of support from management,” the coach stated.
“It would be nice to turn it around and get a victory naturally but if you are in a managerial role and not doing well then it's expected that people question you.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my situation. It is not the first time I've found myself in a difficult position but it's crucial that we turned it around.”
Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to expand on his conversations with the team officials, the head coach revealed:
“We talk a lot. They assist for the squad and to me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me all the time of the day to say they trust me.”
He mentioned, “Through standard discussions I perceive the belief. However I haven’t spoken to them since this game yet so let’s see.”
Recurring Problems and Squad Reaction
Slot lamented known shortcomings from his squad in their Champions League loss, specifically missed opportunities and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more direct in his view of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the solutions. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to all,” the midfielder stated.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don't need to wait to reflect. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He continued, “It’s hard because I play for the club I love. I’m a fan, and I've watched this club all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a spell such as this with outcomes like these.”
Jones stated, “However we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And until that badge is gone, we will always fight.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad back to its rightful place, show everyone again what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the top club in the planet.”
“But right now, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
