Brian Eno Calls On Public Help to Send Palestinian Solidarity Song to UK Christmas No 1.
A fundraising initiative is aiming to send a traditional song from Palestine to the Christmas number one spot. The campaign aims to send support to Gaza's residents while also spotlighting Palestinian cultural expression.
A Chance for Unity and an "Unlikely Coup"
Composer and producer Brian Eno, who contributes to the track, stated that the song titled Lullaby represents a chance to stand with Palestinians over the Christmas period. He remarked the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“That would be amazing if that occurred, yes,” he stated. “I wouldn't be completely disheartened if it doesn’t, Christmas singles are a thing unto themselves.”
Resilient Spirit of Freedom and Dignity
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the adaptation of a cultural piece called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the track's powerful central theme.
“The song holds a profound significance for a lot of people,” Barghouti said. “It’s basically saying that I would prefer a dignified death than exist without freedom. That is the core idea of the song; we seek to lead a life of dignity that we are entitled to as Palestinians.”
Production History and Star-Studded Lineup
The song was recorded after a solidarity show held in September. First conceived to be performed and recorded live, the piece was omitted from the lengthy event due to the event running long.
The impressive roster of performers appearing on Lullaby features a range of acclaimed names from the music world. All participated in the earlier concert, which managed to collect a significant sum for relief efforts.
Final Touches and Availability
Lullaby was brought to life by a trio of talented individuals. The single showcases a fusion of the traditional Arabic lyrics with contemporary English verses.
The organizers behind the initiative have clarified that their aim is to generate maximum funds for a specific fund. These resources will be distributed to Palestinian causes through an established charity.
“We don’t have a rigid aim,” a figure commented. “We aim for the maximum achievable. Obviously, the more the merrier. It all goes out to those in need in Gaza.”
The context in the area was noted for its extreme devastation, with a huge proportion of buildings described as in ruins or severely impacted.
“In that context, a handful of millions doesn’t make a massive dent. But I think what does make a difference is primarily spreading knowledge of this plight and proving that another narrative exists.”
The single 'Lullaby' is scheduled for release at the end of the week. Additionally, a video of the solidarity show will be made accessible to view on a popular streaming site from later in the month.
