Former Physician Faces Sexual Assault Charges Against 38 Individuals in His Care

Prosecutors report that a former physician has been charged with performing assaults against 38 victims who were under his care.

Details of the Serious Allegations

The accused, Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham has been charged with dozens of sexual offences – some of which involve acts against minors under the age of thirteen – spanning the period from 2017 and 2021.

One deputy chief prosecutor stated, “Legal teams have worked at length to support a thorough and intricate police inquiry, meticulously examining the evidence to determine that there is a strong case to proceed to trial and that it is in the public interest.”

Scope of the Investigation

The charges follow what police described as a “complex investigation” into reported sexual offences at medical facilities: the Royal Stoke university hospital and Russells Hall hospital.

The defendant is scheduled to appear at the North Staffordshire justice centre on January 20th.

Breakdown of Offences

Prosecutors said the 45 sexual offences he is charged with:

  • Fifteen counts of assault.
  • 17 counts of penetrative assault.
  • 9 counts of assault on a minor under thirteen.
  • Three counts of penetrative assault on a child under thirteen.
  • One count of attempting to assault by penetration.
