Grief as Popular South African DJ Shot Dead in the Heart of Johannesburg.
A popular South African radio and club DJ has been shot dead in the nation's economic hub Johannesburg, sending shockwaves across a nation grappling with rampant crime.
Warrick Stock, who went by the name DJ Warras, was attacked in the downtown area on Tuesday afternoon.
Officials stated the 40-year-old entertainer was accosted by three suspects, one of whom shot at him before running away.
The motive of the attack has not been established and no suspects have been apprehended are in custody, police said.
The Fatal Incident
Police said that Stock was targeted as he was exiting a premises in the vicinity of the Carlton Centre.
He had spent several hours at the building overseeing the installation of safety equipment, which had been illegally inhabited by squatters, it was reported.
"Authorities believe the man was approached by three unknown suspects after he parked his car, and they opened fire at him before running from the location on foot," an official report confirmed.
Surveillance tape showed a man with dreadlocked hair and clad in what appeared to be a guard's attire shooting on Stock before running away.
The DJ tried to run away after he was hit but succumbed to his injuries a short distance away.
Police added that Stock had an unused firearm and no items were stolen during the incident.
Important clues, like bullet casings, were found at the scene.

Police have appealed members of the public who may have seen the suspects to contact them.
"We know they walked a long distance after the attack, and investigators have been tracking them to establish their whereabouts," remarked an authority figure.
