Lautaro Martínez Brace Ensures Inter Milan on Tail of Frontrunners
Inter striker Lautaro Martínez netted a second-half brace to earn his side a 2-0 win at Pisa, keeping the away side very much engaged in the Italian league title race in spite of a less than convincing display.

Under Cristian Chivu, Inter currently sit third in the table with 27 points, tied with runner-up Roma and just one point behind leaders Milan. In contrast, Pisa occupy the third bottom spot with 10 points.

Inter arrived in Tuscany aiming to get back on track after suffering a loss to rivals by Milan last weekend, which was followed by a European loss at Atlético Madrid. However, they were forced to fight all the way by newly-promoted Pisa. The hosts generated plenty of chances, but a clinical Inter scored the opener in the 69th minute when Argentine Martínez drilled a first-time shot into the top of the net. The attacker then tapped in from close range with seven minutes remaining.
Inter’s capacity to score despite difficult circumstances was decisive in earning three points.

In Spain, the Basque side mounted a thrilling comeback from 2-0 down to level at home against Villarreal, only to succumb to a late strike five minutes into added time. The visitors’ scoring came from Ayoze Pérez just after the 30-minute mark and Alberto Moleiro in the 57th minute, but Carlos Soler soon pulled one back and Ander Barrenetxea leveled the score three minutes from time. Yet, Moleiro had the final say deep into added time.
Later on La Liga match, Real Madrid journey to Girona needing a victory to go back to the top above Barcelona, who recorded a 3-1 win over Alavés on the previous day.
