The beloved police drama AC-12 is officially returning for its 7th season, confirmed by the broadcaster.

An upcoming six-episode season written by the show's creator will begin filming in Northern Ireland this spring, as confirmed by the production team.

The actress expressed excitement about the comeback, saying she was "so excited" about the series' return. Her co-star remarked, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together next year."

The last series concluded in recent years with a finale that drew in more than 17 million viewers. Rumors about a potential return have been widespread for some time, but official word only arrived recently.

New Challenges for The Team

Series seven begins with AC-12 no longer existing and rebranded as the new police oversight body, as revealed by production details.

Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain working to combat misconduct within the police force.

The team's mission "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, the trio will take on their "most sensitive case so far."

Fresh Face and Complex Case

An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, described as a charismatic officer known for busts of organized crime, is accused of misusing his authority to become a offender.

However, this investigation might serve as a deliberate distraction from a larger danger still operating in the background, plot details hinted.

In a statement, the creator said: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the dedicated viewers."

"It's an honor to have had countless followers track the developments of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we are thrilled to be coming back for a new installment."

He added: "Corruption in this country was thought to be over while the series was off air, so I've been forced to use my creativity."

Cast Reactions

The Scottish actor called appearing in the police drama as "the role of a career".

"Beyond the show's success but the colleagues I've collaborated with I now call dear friends."

"I'm excited to pull the waistcoat on again and reunite with everyone," he added.

Vicky McClure remarked: "It goes without saying I'm so excited Line of Duty is returning! Can't wait to work with the creator, Martin and Dunbar again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"

Adrian Dunbar noted: "While anticipating the AC-12 days of Christmas, what a joy it is to know that the central trio will be back filming next year."

"Delighted with the announcement and anticipating those mercurial twists and turns."

Series Legacy

The drama premiered in the early 2010s and became a highly successful television series of the last decade, featuring notable actors such as Thandiwe Newton.

The BBC haven't revealed when the upcoming series will premiere.

The finale of series six brought the long-running storyline about the hunt for kingpin known as "the mysterious H" to a conclusion, and producers indicated at the time there were no intentions for additional seasons.

Nevertheless, the corporation confirmed on this week that a new season is now being produced.
