Supporters Demand Custody of Man Who Seized Ariana Grande
Passionate fans of the actress are demanding that a individual who breached a fence and grabbed the performer during yesterday's Wicked: For Good premiere be arrested or deported from Singapore.
A widely shared footage reveals the Australian man pushing past media personnel and rushing toward Grande while the cast walked down a event pathway surrounded by supporters.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo promptly pulled the shocked star away from Mr Wen, who was seen being removed of the event by security officers.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "free after being arrested", though official papers revealed that he was due to attend court on the next day. It is not clear if he was faced legal action.
History of Disruptions
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Troll Most Hated", has disrupted a concert or event. His Instagram feed includes clips of him interrupting other high-profile occasions, including jumping on stage at the artist's Sydney concert in recently and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers event in the same location last year.
"There needs to be action applied against him as this is clearly a criminal offence," stated an Instagram user, in a reply to a video Mr Wen posted of his act.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" one Instagram user wrote.
Supporters Show Disapproval Over Grande's Well-being
Numerous followers blamed Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had spoken of dealing with trauma-related anxiety after a devastating incident at the end of her May 2017 show in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and injuring many.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" commented another message on Instagram.
Several supporters also faulted event staff at the premiere for not being sufficiently alert; while some demanded social media platforms to block Mr Wen's uploads.
Response and Event Details
In clips shared widely, Grande appeared shocked when she was touched by the intruder. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen reassuring her while Mr Wen was removed by staff.
Grande has remained silent on the event, and the remaining proceedings carried on uninterrupted.
Numerous of supporters had congregated in a crowd of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific launch in a Singapore venue, including some who had queued for as long as many hours before it commenced.
The motion picture, to be released on November 21, is the second of a two-film interpretation of the well-known stage production Wicked, which revolves around the surprising bond between two distinct witches.
The production itself is a adaptation of the classic children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the character Glinda Glinda, was decked out in a light pink glittering gown at the event while Erivo, who plays the Elphaba, wore a sleek black dress decorated with roses.
They were alongside fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the top-earning movie of 2024 in the UK, and earned 10 Oscar nominations, earning a pair for excellent wardrobe and artistic direction.
