The Gory Animated Film Conclusion That Haunts Viewers
Out of all the adult-oriented animated films I’ve ever watched, no other has lingered in my mind as much as the fear-filled finale of the graphically gory as well as highly provocative 2022 movie Unicorn Wars.
In 2015’s, the Spanish filmmaker created a dark, bleak , frequently brutal world with some tiny , desolate glimmers of hope.
Although The Unicorn Wars seems like it came from a drive to push the medium even more, the director stated that it was actually an effort to communicate a universal, multicultural theme regarding “the mutual source of all wars.”
That idea is communicated by means of a band of vividly colored bears , obviously modeled after a popular series of cuddly figures.
Being raised in a culture built around aggression and the war machine, numerous these creatures are consumed by killing the mythical beasts, due to a religious scripture that tells the bears they were once kings of the woods, before the unicorns drove them out.
Others have not completely bought into the indoctrination, and choose to experiment with drugs and fornicate outdoors.
In contrast to their friendly counterparts, these colorful critters show sexual organs and definite sex drives.
For a certain particularly cruel, skeptical animal, Bluey, the war with the unicorns becomes a route toward dominance — and specifically to authority above his softer, more compassionate sibling the character Tubby.
This bear is a bully , a seeming antisocial figure , and while horror dominates his group and kills his fellow soldiers one by one, he seizes progressively influence personally, in increasingly bloody, damaging approaches.
Simultaneously, these mythical beings are experiencing their own terror, in the form of an expanding, deadly beast in their woods.
“In the early stages, it feels like a comedy,” the director said. “However it becomes a more serious and melancholic movie. And ultimately, it’s a horror film.”
Unicorn Wars starts out similar to one of the more whimsical films from an iconic animator, which find a wicked pleasure in permitting animated figures curse, shoot each other, or sex each other up.
Then it turns into closer to a bleaker work from the same director, including ever more visual gore , a palpable connection to the actual suffering of conflict.
Ultimately, it becomes a full-on theatrical horror carnage.
The fear which makes the film a perfect Halloween viewing starts much sooner than indicated.
Unicorn Wars is ideal for the most dedicated lovers of violence, for enthusiasts of extreme cinema who wish to view a movie they have not seen on-screen before, and are able to withstand a narrative which delivers no restraint.
Watch it in a dimly lit space with no disturbances, and that ending will burrow deep within you and stay with you.
