Trump Welcomes Families of Shot National Guard Personnel to the Presidential Residence
President Trump announced on Sunday that he has asked the family of a National Guard member fatally shot last week to come to the White House.
He added that he spoke to her family and they were “heartbroken”.
Information on the Heartbreaking Incident
Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was fatally shot in a shooting on last Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her fellow service member, Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in critical condition.
Memorials across West Virginia have been held in their memory.
Presidential Offer
The president explained he’s discussed a White House visit for the loved ones of both soldiers of the state National Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a tough thing, arrive at the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to Sarah,” Trump informed the press. “And likewise with Andrew, recover or not.”
Public Support
Attendees assembled over the weekend at Webster County high school in West Virginia to pay respects to Sarah.
Both the soldiers had been fulfilling duties with the state guard as part of Trump’s government program to aid policing efforts in Washington DC.
Honoring the Soldier
“She was the type of pupil that instructors desired. She conducted herself with inner fortitude, a contagious smile and a upbeat demeanor that lifted those around her,” Hankins, the head of her previous school, told the press. “She was sweet, considerate and always eager to support those in need.”
Memorial arrangements for Sarah are in the process of planning.
Judicial Measures and Government Revisions
Officials have charged a twenty-nine-year-old suspect with a charge of first-degree murder and charges of assault with intent to kill while carrying a weapon.
The event led the administration to pause asylum applications and halt granting entry permits to possessors of passports from Afghanistan.
Status of the Airman
The airman, a resident of the city, began his service in February 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman high school, per the Associated Press.
He is still undergoing care and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s governor Morrisey stated on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
Attorney general Bondi stated on Fox News Sunday that she planned to meet with the family.
Legacy of Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from Summersville, graduated from her high school in mid-2023 and enlisted soon after, working as a military police officer with honor, according to the military.
“She had a lot of compassion and she absolutely had courage,” he addressed the audience at the service. “Though her life was cut short, she has made an impact that’s going to be remembered always.”
